01Quick answer

What is conversion tracking, and why do I need it?

Conversion tracking records the actions that matter to your business, such as a form sent, a call tapped, a booking or a sale, and ties each one to where the visitor came from. Without it you can see traffic but not which pages, ads or channels bring in clients, so every marketing decision is a guess.

Conversion tracking setup: automation and growth by Sukesh Das

02What you get

Everything the job needs.

The core setup every site needs, measured around leads and sales rather than page views. Ad tracking and advanced options are added when you need them.

  • Tracking auditWhat is installed now, and what is broken, duplicated or missing, written up before anything changes.
  • Google Analytics 4Events, key events, custom dimensions and 14-month data retention, with your own visits filtered out.
  • Google Tag ManagerEvery tag managed in one container, so nothing is hard-coded and changes are quick and safe.
  • Lead and sale eventsForm submits, calls, WhatsApp and email clicks, bookings and purchases tracked as key events.
  • Form funnel trackingWhere people open a form, which step they reach and where they give up.
  • Microsoft ClarityHeatmaps and session recordings, with sensitive fields masked and your team excluded.
  • Search ConsoleVerified and linked to GA4, so search queries sit next to your conversions.
  • Consent and privacyA cookie banner with Google Consent Mode v2 where you need one, and your privacy policy updated to match.

03Who it is for

Built for people like you.

Most of these clients are in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and I have worked with clients in 70 countries.

Not the right fit if you want someone to run your ad campaigns. I set up the tracking that makes them measurable.

  • Businesses running paid ads

Google and Meta ads that optimize for real enquiries, so the budget goes to clicks that turn into clients.

  • Coaches, clinics and service businesses

Clear numbers on which pages and channels bring in calls and bookings, without learning GA4 yourself.

  • Agencies

Clean, documented tracking on client sites, delivered under your brand and ready for your reports.

04Sound familiar?

What usually goes wrong.

01

Traffic, but no idea what works

Google Analytics shows visitors, but not which ads, posts or pages turn into enquiries.

02

Numbers nobody trusts

Leads counted twice, your own visits included, or form submissions missing since the move to GA4.

03

Ad spend on autopilot

Google and Meta report conversions that do not match your inbox, so the ads optimize for the wrong thing.

05Under the hood

Ad tracking and advanced add-ons.

Added when your business needs them and quoted separately, so the core setup stays simple.

01

Meta Pixel and Conversions API

Facebook and Instagram ads tracked in the browser and from the server, so leads still count when ad blockers or iOS limits get in the way.

02

Google Ads conversions

Conversion actions, Enhanced Conversions and remarketing audiences, so Smart Bidding learns from real leads.

03

LinkedIn, TikTok and other tags

The LinkedIn Insight Tag for B2B, plus TikTok, Pinterest, X or Microsoft Ads tags wherever you advertise.

04

WooCommerce ecommerce tracking

Product views, add to cart, checkout and purchase sent to GA4 and your ad platforms, with order values.

05

Lead source in your CRM

UTM tags and ad click IDs saved with each enquiry and passed into your CRM or GoHighLevel, so every lead shows where it came from.

06

Booking tool tracking

Calendly, Acuity and GoHighLevel bookings counted as conversions, even when the calendar is embedded.

07

Looker Studio dashboard

One page with leads by source, top pages and ad results, instead of fifty charts nobody reads.

08

Server-side tracking

Tag Manager running on your own subdomain for more complete data and fewer scripts in the browser. It has a small monthly hosting cost.

09

Call tracking

For phone-led businesses, numbers that show which page or ad made the phone ring, using a service such as CallRail.

06In practice

What gets measured.

The journeys I set up most often. Every step is an event you can see in GA4 and in your ad platforms.

Ad click to enquiry

  1. Ad click
  2. Landing page
  3. Form started
  4. Form sent
  5. Key event
  6. Ad platform

The ad platform learns which clicks became real enquiries, not just visits, and bids for more of them.

Multi-step form funnel

  1. Form opened
  2. Step 1
  3. Step 2
  4. Step 3
  5. Submitted

Each step is tracked, so you can see where people give up and fix that question first. The quote form on this site is measured this way.

Shop checkout

  1. Product view
  2. Add to cart
  3. Checkout
  4. Payment
  5. Purchase

Revenue and drop-off at every step, sent to GA4 and to your ad platforms with order values.

Lead to client

  1. Visit
  2. Enquiry
  3. CRM
  4. Booked call
  5. Client

UTM tags and click IDs travel with the lead into your CRM, so you can see which channel brings clients, not only enquiries.

10Questions

Conversion tracking setup FAQs.

Something else? Ask me directly

Will tracking slow down my website?

Very little when it is set up properly. Tags load through one Tag Manager container, heatmap tools load after the page, and anything not in use is removed.

Do I need a cookie banner?

If you have visitors from the EU or UK, yes. I set up a consent banner with Google Consent Mode v2, so analytics and ads respect each visitor's choice.

Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity?

Both. GA4 shows where visitors come from and what they convert on. Clarity shows how they behave on the page, with heatmaps and recordings. They answer different questions, and Clarity is free.

Can you fix my existing setup?

Yes. Most jobs start with an audit of what is already there. I keep what works, remove duplicates and fix what is broken, so your historical data stays.

Who owns the accounts?

You do. GA4, Tag Manager, Clarity and your ad accounts stay in your name. I work with the access you give me and hand everything back documented.

Which platforms do you work with?

WordPress, WooCommerce, Squarespace, GoHighLevel, Shopify and custom-coded sites. Hosted builders limit what can be tracked, and I tell you up front where that applies.

How long does a tracking setup take?

A core setup usually takes three to five working days, including testing every event. Ad platforms, ecommerce or server-side tracking add a few days each.

What do I need to provide?

Admin access to your website, and access to Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console and any ad accounts you use. If you do not have them yet, I create them in your name.

Can you send me a monthly report?

Yes. A short monthly report with leads by source and what changed can be added on its own or as part of a care plan.

Booking new projects

Not sure where your leads come from?

Send me your website address. I will check what is tracked now, what is missing, and what it takes to fix.
