I manage a lot of WordPress sites, and more and more of that work starts in an AI chat. The problem was always the last step: the assistant could write the content or the code, but I still had to copy it into WordPress by hand. HandyMCP fixes that. It is a WordPress plugin that turns any site into an MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other AI apps can read and edit the site directly, with clear permissions, a full activity log and an undo for every change.
Built for safety first
Letting an AI touch a live site is only useful if it cannot break things. So the plugin was designed around control: you choose which tools each connection may use, set it to read only, pause it, or revoke it in one click. Every change is logged and saved in history, so one click puts a page back exactly as it was.

- OAuth 2.1 with automatic app registration, so AI apps connect without copying keys
- Access tokens for tools that need them, with scopes, roles and rate limits
- WordPress abilities support and REST access for plugins without their own tool
- An activity log of every call and a full undo history
- Code edits checked for errors, backed up and rolled back automatically if the site breaks
What the free version does
The free plugin has more than 80 tools. It manages posts, pages, media, menus and terms, builds pages in the Block Editor and Elementor, adds stock photos from Openverse, Pexels and Unsplash with alt text and credit, adds Pexels videos, writes SEO titles and descriptions for Yoast and Rank Math, edits WooCommerce products and works with Contact Form 7 and WPForms. There are no daily limits, credits or per-call fees.

What Pro and Agency add
Pro grows that to more than 260 tools for the work agencies do every day:
- Elementor Pro Theme Builder and popups, WPBakery, Avada, Divi, Beaver Builder and addon packs
- WooCommerce variations, coupons, customers, orders, refunds and sales reports
- WPML, Polylang, ACF, Meta Box, Pods and JetEngine
- Bulk SEO fixes across all major SEO plugins
- Plugin and theme updates with backup, plus scheduled safe updates with site checks, automatic rollback and email reports
- Malware cleanup with your security plugin, with backups and undo
- Search and replace across the site with preview, brand kit, ready sections and page audits
- White label, so agencies can rename the plugin for clients
- Agency: a client sites hub that runs one AI task across many sites

Two plugins from one codebase
Free and Pro are built from the same source. A build pipeline splits them, strips anything WordPress.org does not allow from the free version, and packages both. Pro checks its license against my own custom license manager through a signed client and receives updates from handymcp.com. A 7-day Pro trial can be started from inside the free plugin.

The result
I now ask Claude to build a page, fix SEO across a site or update plugins safely, and it happens in WordPress while I watch the log. The free version is submitted to WordPress.org, and Pro is available at handymcp.com. Read the full story in my HandyMCP blog post, or get in touch if you need a custom WordPress plugin built.
